22-23 June 2010. The Kemerovo Region, Prokopyevsk. The seminar “Human rights in the activity of the officers of bodies of internal affairs” was held in the hotel “Avrora” near Novokuznetsk airport.

This is a joint seminar for the officers of bodies of internal affairs of all big cities of the south of Kuzbass and representatives of human rights NGOs from three regions: the Krasnoyarsk region, Novosibirsk and Kemerovo regions.

The activity was initiated by the South-Siberian human rights center within the frames of the project “Development of the strategy on prevention of extralegal practices in the work of law-enforcement and penitentiary bodies”, supported by the European Commission.

A training team included a cochairman of RPO “Human being and Law” Sergey Poduzov and a trainer-psychologist Nikolay Gusakov.

The main subject of the program was “Human rights and police”.

- For the first time we had to work with a group, consisting of equal number of human rights defenders and officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The main aim was to learn about collaboration between NGOs and the Ministry of Internal Affairs in other regions, experience of teaching human rights, and about the work of Public Councils under the Ministry of Internal Affairs, – said the cochairman of RPO “Human being and Law” Sergey Poduzov. – Thus, the main point of the meeting is experience exchange. Audience was also interested in presentation of the brochure “Five years of collaboration”, issued by joint efforts of RPO “Human being and Law” and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Mari El Republic. This brochure includes positive experience of collaboration between human rights defenders and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Mari El Republic: joint activities, best projects and achievements.

On 24-25 June 2010 in the Kemerovo region human rights defenders of Mari El Republic will hold a seminar for representatives of public organisations and develop an individual program of seminars for the staff of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
